時間|Time
導言
Introduction
Time itself is invisible, but nature leaves time inside form.
Cliffs expose cut interfaces; canyons deepen through prolonged erosion; strata preserve different periods of deposition; veins cross older rock; caves turn dissolution and removal into interior space.
In minerals, growth layers, phantoms, fractures, later fillings, etching, and self-healing can preserve multiple stages of formation within one specimen.
In the DIYU Reading System, Time is read through accumulation, cutting, and trace.
Cliff
A cliff is an exposed interface. Uplift, fracture, erosion, or cutting brings structures once contained inside the landscape directly into view.
Sharp fractures, broad crystal faces, layered edges, or steep matrix surfaces can create comparable readings in minerals. What matters is not resemblance to a wall, but the way an interface reveals interior structure.
Reading impressions: exposure, interface, endurance.
Canyon
A canyon gains depth through prolonged erosion and cutting. Its character lies not only in the steep walls on either side, but in the central passage those walls define together.
Deep fractures, narrow spaces, etched grooves, and layered openings in minerals can similarly turn what has been removed into readable depth.
Reading impressions: depth, cutting, passage.
地層
Strata
Strata preserve sequences of deposition, compaction, and later change. Each layer is not merely decoration but an interface left by different formation conditions.
Repeated phantoms, colour bands, growth boundaries, and layered associations in minerals can similarly place different stages inside one specimen. The important reading is sequence: what formed first and what later covered, crossed, or enclosed it.
Reading impressions: accumulation, order, record.
Cave
Caves remind us that landscape structure is formed not only by material that remains, but also by space left after material has been removed.
Geodes, cavities, open fractures, and inward-growing crystals can establish comparable interior spaces. Here emptiness is not a defect, but a structure that influences crystal direction, light, and viewing depth.
Reading impressions: interior, absence, containment.
Time in Minerals
To read time in minerals, observe whether several growth stages are preserved; whether later minerals fill earlier fractures; whether breakage, etching, and regrowth coexist; whether colour bands and inclusions show sequence; whether cavities and gaps become structural; and whether matrix and crystals record different stages of formation.
Time does not exist only in what remains complete. Gaps, fractures, coatings, and refilled spaces can be some of its clearest records.
Reading Impressions
Time does not only accumulate. It also removes, cuts, and revises.
Strata add thickness while canyons cut downward; veins pass through older rock while caves turn material that once existed into space.
Time therefore includes accumulation, cutting, passage, absence, and preservation.
DIYU Reading
DIYU Reading
DIYU does not assume that every trace must be repaired.
Time naturally adds and removes. New growth layers remain while surfaces may be etched; fractures may stay open or later become filled by other minerals.
Completeness does not mean having never changed. A mineral carries a sense of time precisely because different stages can coexist on its surface and inside its structure.
To read Time is not to demand a return to what existed before change, but to recognise what remained, what changed, and how those traces together form the present structure.
