高度|Elevation

高度|Elevation

導言

Introduction

Elevation is one of the most direct spatial relationships in natural landscapes.

A mountain rises from the ground; a mountain range connects multiple elevations; a snowline creates a boundary between conditions; and a glacier allows material accumulated at high altitude to move slowly downward under gravity and terrain.

Minerals can produce comparable spatial structures through terminations, principal and secondary crystals, uneven cluster heights, pale coatings, and transparent layers. This does not mean that literal mountains or glaciers exist inside crystals. Rather, natural systems at different scales can share relationships of ascent, boundary, accumulation, and extension.

In the DIYU Reading System, Elevation is read through ascent, scale, and position.

山

Mountain

A mountain is not only a summit. Base, slope, and peak rise continuously together, giving height a readable scale.

In minerals, a broad base supporting a complete termination, mountain-like phantoms, or a principal crystal rising from a cluster can create a comparable reading. The essential relationship is support: a summit becomes meaningful because a full process of ascent exists beneath it.

Reading impressions: concentration, support, ascent.

山脈

Mountain Range

A mountain range is built from connected forms at different elevations. Its identity lies less in one highest peak than in the rhythm between peaks, ridges, valleys, and lower ground.

A crystal cluster can be read in a similar way: principal and secondary crystals share a base, gaps remain between them, and differences in height create a continuous outline. The number of crystals alone does not create a range; the relationship between elevations does.

Reading impressions: continuity, relationship, shared direction.

雪線

Snowline

A snowline is a boundary produced by elevation and environmental conditions. It allows one mountain to display different surface states at different positions.

In minerals, white inclusions, coatings, growth layers, or pale material concentrated within a particular zone may create comparable boundaries against transparent or darker regions. The important element is not whiteness alone, but how one continuous structure changes under different conditions.

A snowline does not sever the landscape; it marks transition.

Reading impressions: boundary, clarity, transition.

冰川

Glacier

Glaciers form where snow and ice accumulate for long periods at high elevation. Once enough material gathers, gravity moves it extremely slowly downslope.

A glacial reading in minerals may come from white and transparent layers, directional fractures and textures, downward reflections, or continuous coatings. Whiteness alone is insufficient; direction and time are equally important.

Reading impressions: accumulation, slowness, descent.

Elevation in Minerals

To read elevation in minerals, observe whether a crystal has a clear base and upward direction; how principal and secondary crystals establish height differences; whether a cluster creates a continuous rising and falling outline; whether pale coatings, phantoms, or growth layers form boundaries; and how crystals relate to matrix as terrain.

Elevation is not simply a contest for the tallest point. Without lower ground, height loses scale; without surrounding space, a principal crystal loses position.

Reading Impressions

Elevation is often reduced to upward movement, yet a complete reading of height must include lower ground.

Without a base, a summit loses scale; without valleys, a range becomes isolated points; without exposed rock, a snowline cannot establish a boundary; without accumulation above, a glacier has nothing from which to descend.

Elevation therefore includes ascent, scale, boundary, accumulation, and return.

DIYU Reading

DIYU Reading

DIYU does not read elevation as status, superiority, or dominance.

Height in nature never exists in isolation. A summit depends on its base; a range depends on the relationship between peaks and valleys; a snowline depends on environmental conditions; and a glacier returns high-altitude accumulation toward lower ground.

Ascent does not mean departure. In minerals, elevation is not simply the sharpest or tallest crystal, but the way a termination is supported, placed beside secondary crystals, and given scale through surrounding space.

To read Elevation is not to demand endless ascent, but to understand where you stand, what supports you, and how that position remains connected to a larger landscape.
