導言

導言|Introduction

Quartz does not have only one appearance.

It may be colourless and transparent, or appear purple, yellow, smoky brown, and pink. Its interior may preserve phantoms, rutile, chlorite, and other minerals, while different stages of growth may produce sceptres, double terminations, skeletal forms, self-healed surfaces, and many other structures.

Despite these visual differences, the host mineral remains quartz, composed primarily of silicon dioxide. Amethyst, Citrine, and Rose Quartz are all varieties of quartz with the principal composition SiO₂ and a Mohs hardness of approximately 7. Their differences arise through colour centres, trace elements, inclusions, internal structures, and distinct histories of formation.

DIYU therefore approaches quartz through four directions:

Colour Varieties examine how colour appears within quartz.

Phantoms and Inclusions examine how earlier growth stages and other minerals become preserved inside it.

Growth Forms examine how quartz extends, covers, divides, pauses, and resumes growing.

Specimen Forms examine how individual crystals, clusters, matrix, and associated minerals form a complete specimen.

In the DIYU Reading System, Quartz is not read through energy, but through formation.

Four Reading Entrances

Quartz may be nearly colourless or develop different colours through trace elements, colour centres, natural irradiation, inclusions, and treatment.

This category reads how the same principal mineral structure develops different colours and degrees of transparency under different conditions.

DIYU Reading

Quartz is not a blank surface waiting only for human projection.

Its colour, inclusions, crystal faces, fractures, and specimen relationships arise from real conditions of formation.

The same quartz may be read through colour, through another mineral preserved inside it, through its manner of growth, or through its relationship with matrix and neighbouring crystals.

Classification does not divide quartz into unrelated compartments.

A Green Phantom Quartz may also be double-terminated, associated with chlorite, and preserved as part of a cluster upon matrix. Its presence within several categories is not a contradiction. It shows that one specimen can be understood through several entrances.

The classification tree does not decide what a specimen is allowed to be.

It shows the directions from which reading may begin.
