白幽靈｜White Phantom Quartz

白幽靈，是市場對石英內部保存白色、乳白色或近乎無色幻影輪廓的稱呼。

嚴格來說，幻影不是任意漂浮在石英中的白色雲霧，而是晶體較早階段的外部生長面。當石英暫停生長，細微礦物、流體或其他物質在晶面上形成一層標記；之後石英再次生長，原本位於最外側的輪廓便被封存在內部。

市場也常把乳霧層、雲霧狀包裹體、癒合裂隙或白色礦物包裹體統稱為白幽靈，因此個別標本仍需要區分真正的幻影與其他白色內部結構。

White Phantom Quartz is a market term for quartz preserving white, milky, or nearly colourless phantom outlines within the crystal.

Strictly speaking, a phantom is not simply any white cloud floating inside quartz. It records an earlier external growth surface. When quartz growth pauses and fine minerals, fluids, or other material mark the exposed faces, renewed growth can enclose that former outer boundary within the completed crystal.

Markets may also use the name for milky layers, cloudy inclusions, healed fractures, or white mineral inclusions, so individual specimens should distinguish a true phantom from other white internal structures.

People are often drawn not only to the colour white, but to the way a surface once exposed to the outside can move inward without disappearing.

In the DIYU Reading System, White Phantom Quartz is not read through cleansing, but through layers.

白色標記可能來自非常細的礦物顆粒、流體相關結構、黏土或其他能散射光線的物質。若白色只形成不規則雲霧，沒有追隨主晶的晶面方向，就更接近包裹體或內部霧層，而不是典型幻影。

多層白幽靈代表生長條件曾經多次改變。每一層都不是裝飾，而是晶體在不同時間曾經抵達的邊界。

The host mineral remains quartz, composed primarily of silicon dioxide, SiO₂. It crystallises in the trigonal system and has a Mohs hardness of 7.

The key to a phantom is not colour but growth sequence. Earlier quartz first develops complete or partial crystal faces. A change in the environment then leaves fine material on those surfaces, and when quartz resumes growing, a new transparent layer encloses the former exterior.

The white marking may consist of very fine minerals, fluid-related structures, clay, or other material that scatters light. If the white material forms irregular clouds without following the orientation of crystal faces, it is better described as an inclusion or cloudy layer rather than a classic phantom.

Multiple white phantoms record repeated changes in growth conditions. Each layer is not decoration, but a boundary once reached by the crystal at a different time.

Modern crystal culture often connects white with purity, cleansing, renewal, and spirituality, while phantom structures are associated with the past, stages, and records of growth.

White Phantom Quartz therefore easily becomes a symbol of “clearing the past” or “starting again.” Yet the crystal itself shows almost the opposite: the past has not been removed at all. It remains visible inside.

Those who spend time observing White Phantom Quartz often discover that its character lies not in how white it appears, but in the clear relationship between earlier and later layers.

The outer crystal is the present; the internal outline was once a present surface too.

When new quartz encloses an earlier growth face, that earlier layer is not treated as an error and is not smoothed away. It simply moves from exterior to interior and remains visible beside later transparent space.

Multiple phantoms make this temporal structure even clearer: the crystal does not finish in one step, but repeatedly establishes boundaries and carries them into the next stage.

What matters is how new growth can continue without deleting earlier layers.
