Air|風。
Anahata|
Yaṃ。

Above the fire, air begins to move
Earth allows us to stand.
Water allows us to feel.
Fire allows us to choose.
Further upward, at the centre of the chest, the element becomes:
Air.
Anahata — the Heart Chakra rests around the centre of the chest.
In older chakra imagery, it appears as a twelve-petalled lotus.
Within the lotus are two interlocking triangles.
One points upward.
The other downward.
Like two forces moving in opposite directions and meeting in the same place.
At the centre rests the seed sound of the air element:
Yaṃ.
Air has no fixed shape.
It is not Earth upon which one can stand.
It is not water that can be contained.
Nor does it burn around a single centre like fire.
It moves through space.
It reaches one person, then continues toward another.
And so, at the Heart Chakra, something begins to appear that was less visible in the centres below:
connection.
Not only “I,”
but the space between myself and another being,
through which air begins to move.
Anāhata

The sound that was never struck
The name Anāhata carries a beautiful meaning.
It is often understood as:
that which sounds without being struck.
Ordinary sound requires two things to meet.
One hand strikes another.
A mallet meets a bell.
A string is plucked.
Sound is born from contact.
But within yogic and spiritual traditions there is also the image of another kind of sound.
One that is not produced by an outward collision.
It is already present.
It can only be heard when there is enough stillness.
This is the image of Anāhata Nāda — the unstruck sound.
The Heart Chakra, then, is not concerned only with emotion.
It also points toward a quieter form of perception.
Some things do not need to be forced into existence.
They do not need to be conquered.
They do not need to be proven.
They appear on their own
when a person becomes quiet enough to notice.
Later traditions placed love, compassion, acceptance, and forgiveness around this centre.
It is not difficult to see why.
True connection
rarely comes from forcing another person closer.
It comes from leaving enough space between two beings
for both to breathe.

Green, and what the heart carries
Today, the Heart Chakra is usually green.
Sometimes pink appears beside it.
Green easily evokes plants.
New leaves.
Forests.
Forms of life that continue to grow without needing to make a great noise.
Within modern chakra traditions, Anahata has gradually gathered themes of:
love,
compassion,
relationship,
acceptance,
forgiveness,
grief.
The love of the Heart Chakra is not limited to romance.
It may include family.
Friends.
Partners.
Strangers.
Animals.
Nature.
Even the way a person relates to themselves.
Because the moment love becomes possible, another possibility appears beside it:
loss.
And so the Heart Chakra is also often associated with grief.
Love opens a person.
And to open means that something may enter,
but also that something may one day leave.
The softness of the heart, then, is not only gentleness.
It also requires courage.
An open heart is not a heart that can never be hurt.
It is a heart that knows hurt is possible,
and still remains capable of connection.
Rose Quartz|
Green Aventurine|

When pink and green stones come to the heart
When crystal healing entered the Heart Chakra, two colours quickly gathered around it.
Green.
And:
pink.
Perhaps the most familiar stone is:
Rose Quartz.
Within modern crystal-healing traditions, Rose Quartz is frequently associated with love, tenderness, self-acceptance, and emotional healing, and is often placed near the Heart Chakra.
Another path is green.
Green Aventurine, green calcite, and other green minerals are also used by different practitioners in Heart Chakra work.
Some wear stones over the chest.
Some place them upon the heart during meditation.
Some hold a pink stone during grief, loss, or changes in relationship, hoping only that the heart will not close too quickly.
Within these practices, the mineral does not necessarily solve the relationship.
It becomes something placed near the heart as a reminder:
You can still feel.
You can still breathe.
You can still remain connected to something.
Green comes from growth.
Pink from tenderness.
And a cold stone
is placed close to the heart
to speak about love.

Reading
The Heart Chakra rests at the centre of the seven.
Below it are Earth, water, and fire.
Above it wait voice, vision, and higher states of consciousness.
And so it becomes a bridge.
On one side:
I want to survive.
I want to feel.
I want to act.
On the other:
I want to speak.
I want to see.
I want to understand.
And between them
is the heart.
Not because love solves everything.
But because the moment a person truly enters into relationship with the world,
the self is no longer the only measure.
Air moves from oneself toward another.
And from another,
back again.
Perhaps this is the true difficulty of Anahata.
Not simply learning to love,
but learning to remain within love
while still allowing the air to move.
Without holding too tightly.
Without closing completely.
