Prehnite
導言
Introduction
Prehnite is a hydrous calcium aluminium silicate, commonly pale green, yellow-green, milky white, or nearly colourless.
Its most recognisable forms are not sharp isolated points but globular, reniform, botryoidal, and radiating aggregates. Many small crystals grow outward together and gradually cover cavities and rock surfaces with rounded continuous forms; large, clearly individualised crystals are comparatively uncommon.
In the bead and gem markets, Prehnite is also fashioned into spheres and cabochons. Transparent, translucent, milky, and nearly opaque material can give the same pale green very different degrees of distance and visual weight.
In the DIYU Reading System, Prehnite is not read through prophecy, but through becoming.

Botryoidal Prehnite
Transparent to Milky Material
Prehnite with Epidote
Prehnite is Ca₂Al₂Si₃O₁₀(OH)₂, crystallises in the orthorhombic system, and has a Mohs hardness of approximately 6 to 6.5. It commonly forms in low-temperature hydrothermal or low-grade metamorphic environments within veins and cavities of mafic volcanic rocks and other altered rocks.
It frequently occurs with calcite, epidote, apophyllite, and zeolite-group minerals, although Prehnite itself is not a zeolite.
Botryoidal Prehnite
The rounded surface is commonly built by many fine crystals radiating outward and gathering into one aggregate. The exterior may look soft and smooth while the interior preserves clear crystalline direction. Some specimens create thick coatings; others grow only along parts of cavities in the matrix.
Transparent to Milky Material
Terms such as “icy Prehnite” describe transparency and appearance rather than separate mineral varieties. Clearer material allows light to enter and reveal fractures, fibrous structures, and associated minerals, while milky material scatters light closer to the surface and concentrates pale green colour.
Prehnite with Epidote
Dark green, brown-black, and nearly black needle-like or prismatic associated minerals are common in some Prehnite specimens, and many can be Epidote. Bead-market descriptions may automatically call such structures “Black Tourmaline,” but dark colour and prismatic habit alone are insufficient for identification; reliable naming requires mineralogical evidence and locality context.
To read Prehnite is to observe how countless small stages of growth slowly gather scattered space into a complete form.
Reading Impressions
Pale green readily evokes new leaves, young grapes, spring, moisture, and unripe fruit. Prehnite often occupies a quieter stage in which growth has begun but is not yet complete.
Botryoidal structure also differs from a prism that concentrates growth into a single axis; many small components increase volume together and gradually establish rounded boundaries.
Modern crystal culture frequently associates Prehnite with foresight, dreams, intuition, and inner organisation. These are symbols formed through colour, naming, and cultural transmission rather than evidence that the mineral predicts future events.
Prehnite with Epidote is particularly complex: rounded and pointed forms, pale and dark colour, slow accumulation and decisive passage can exist together, preventing the specimen from being reduced to softness alone.

The fascination of Prehnite lies less in the cleanest possible green than in the process of accumulation preserved within its rounded surface.
Each botryoidal mound may be built by fine crystals too small to distinguish individually. Every addition is limited, but continued growth gradually fills gaps and brings scattered structures into relationship.
Transparent material exposes those relationships more readily; milky material preserves the process behind colour. One opens toward the observer while the other retains distance.
Prehnite therefore comes to embody becoming, accumulation, gentleness, and formation.

DIYU Reading
DIYU does not read Prehnite as a tool for predicting the future.
What matters is how something can continue forming while remaining incomplete.
The rounded surface did not appear complete at once; it accumulated through many small stages of growth. Becoming is not waiting for a predetermined answer, but the process by which structure continues to adjust, gather, and enter relationship before all conditions are complete.
Prehnite with Epidote makes this especially clear: growth does not move only through softness. It may also include passage, interruption, shadow, and definite boundaries.
To read Prehnite is not to search for signs of the future, but to understand that incompleteness does not mean the absence of progress; some forms are quietly becoming themselves one stage at a time.
