Single Crystal

Single Crystal

導言

Introduction

A Single Crystal is one principal crystal individual built from a continuous crystal lattice. As a specimen-reading category, it describes an object whose visual centre and dominant growth direction are concentrated within one crystal.

A single crystal may have complete faces and a clear termination, or it may preserve fractures, etching, inclusions, colour zoning, cloudiness, partial damage, matrix, and attached minerals. These features change appearance without necessarily changing its structure as one principal crystal individual.

“Single crystal” is therefore not a grade of perfection. It does not mean completely transparent, completely isolated, or free of matrix. It first describes how form, direction, and records of formation are concentrated within one continuous structure.

In the DIYU Reading System, the Single Crystal is not read through independence, but through concentration.

Natural Reading

When quartz grows in rock fractures, cavities, and mineral veins, its form is constrained by surrounding space, fluid supply, and changing formation conditions.

As silica-bearing fluid enters available space, quartz precipitates and grows according to its lattice. Temperature, pressure, solution chemistry, supersaturation, and obstruction by matrix or neighbouring crystals influence prism proportions, face development, and termination form.

Where growth space is relatively open, prism faces and terminations can develop more fully. Where matrix, neighbouring crystals, or structural constraints intervene, some faces may become inclined, truncated, or unable to develop completely.

Fractures, etching, inclusions, and phantoms are not merely decorations added after formation. They may record changing fluid chemistry, neighbouring minerals, pauses and renewed growth, breakage, and recrystallisation.

To read a Single Crystal is to observe how complex geological conditions become concentrated into one recognisable principal form.

Reading Impressions

Observation of a Single Crystal is usually more concentrated than observation of a cluster. Attention is often captured first by the termination, long axis, or dominant outline before moving along the prism toward the base and interior.

A slender vertical crystal readily produces impressions of ascent, extension, and direction. A thick crystal adds weight and stability, while a strongly inclined one gives a static object a sense of movement and tension.

Transparency changes that path again. A transparent crystal lets attention pass inward; cloudiness and inclusions create pauses; phantoms establish internal layers; etching and growth markings pull attention back toward the exterior.

Even among single crystals, proportion, orientation, transparency, and surface condition can therefore create completely different readings.

The Single Crystal has gradually accumulated impressions of concentration, direction, individuality, and clarity.

Mineral Character

Those who spend time observing a Single Crystal often discover that its fascination does not come from there being “only one,” but from the way formal relationships become easier to read in concentration.

One principal axis establishes direction; prism proportion determines speed and weight; the termination gathers the form at one position; matrix and damage determine where that direction begins and where it is interrupted.

A single crystal is not therefore isolated. It remains the result of a particular rock layer, fracture, fluid system, and surrounding minerals. Those complex conditions are simply compressed into one principal crystal individual.

Over time, the Single Crystal has come to embody concentration, direction, individuality, and capacity.

DIYU Reading

DIYU Reading

DIYU does not read the Single Crystal through isolation or self-sufficiency.

What matters is how complex conditions become clear through one principal direction.

The crystal appears as an individual, but it was never formed by itself. Without available space, fluid, matrix, and surrounding minerals, the present form would not exist.

Concentration therefore does not exclude relationships. It gathers the results of those relationships into a structure that can be read more clearly.

To read a Single Crystal, begin with its principal axis and then observe how transparency, fractures, inclusions, faces, and matrix support or interrupt that direction.

What finally becomes visible is not merely one crystal.

It is a complex history of formation finding a readable order within one principal form.
