MASTER CRYSTALS

Comparing width and thickness
The Tabular Crystal is identified not primarily by its termination, but by the proportions of the whole crystal.
A conventional quartz crystal often presents itself first as a prism.
A Tabular Crystal, by contrast, appears as though that prism has been spread outward from two sides, becoming broad across its face while remaining comparatively thin through its depth.
The typical form has two opposing prism faces that are especially broad, so that the crystal appears wide from the front and dramatically thinner when turned sideways. This flattened, tabular appearance is itself a recognizable crystal habit, and natural quartz specimens with distinctly tabular proportions are documented in mineral collections.
Identification therefore comes down to comparing:
width
with
thickness.
Some New Age descriptions use a width roughly twice the thickness as a convenient guideline. This is not a strict mineralogical ratio, nor a universal rule shared by every Master Crystal author. What matters more is whether the crystal has clearly shifted from a prismatic appearance toward a naturally flattened form, rather than having been cut or polished into a slab.
Some Tabular Crystals remain relatively thick.
Others become astonishingly thin.
Some may even be double terminated.
What remains consistent
is the broad relationship between two wide faces
and the narrow space between them.
Quartz retains its crystal structure,
yet appears less like a column
and more like a plane.
Katrina Raphaell 在 1985 年的 Crystal Enlightenment 中已經把 Tabular Crystals 放進她的 New Age Stones 系統。

A crystal that connects two sides
Within New Age crystal language,
this flattened form acquired a natural role:
connection.
Katrina Raphaell included Tabular Crystals among the New Age Stones in Crystal Enlightenment in 1985. She described them as quartz with a distinctive energetic character and emphasized their role in connection, communication, and bridging separation. Later crystal traditions continued to use the language of “bridging gaps” and the Tabular as a communicator.
The symbolism follows the form closely.
A thin crystal.
Two broad faces.
Parallel sides
separated by only a narrow depth.
It becomes an image of connection:
between heart and mind,
between two people,
between different points of view,
or between where a person stands now
and the next stage of development.
Some later traditions therefore use Tabular Crystals as personal meditation pieces and describe them as private teachers, believing that they can assist communication between different levels of awareness.
Unlike a Transmitter,
the Tabular does not necessarily send something far away.
It places two separate positions
within the same plane.
Both sides remain.
But between them,
a passage appears.
New Age

Thin does not mean weak
The first thing one may notice about a Tabular Crystal is its thinness.
Yet within New Age interpretation,
thinness rarely becomes a symbol of fragility.
Quite the opposite.
Raphaell described the Tabular as a powerful form of connecting quartz, and later traditions repeatedly carried it into the language of balance, communication, and relationship.
This gives the Tabular Crystal a quiet place among the Master Crystals.
It is not enormous enough to transform an entire space.
Not complex enough to become a temple.
It has no single point gathering everything toward itself.
It simply preserves
a narrow distance
between two broad faces.
And that distance
came to be read as:
something that can be crossed.
Connection, in the Tabular Crystal,
does not require the two sides to disappear.
It only asks that
the space between them
no longer remain empty.
Nature forms quartz into a thin plate.
New Age culture looks at that form
and imagines something simple:
two separate places
can still be joined by a bridge.
