變化|Transformation
導言
Introduction
Transformation is the process through which nature reshapes form under changing conditions.
Volcanoes move subsurface material through melting, release, and cooling to create new terrain; deserts continually expose and transport surfaces through dryness, temperature change, wind, and weathering; gobi landscapes preserve rock, gravel, and residual surfaces after prolonged erosion and transport.
Minerals can likewise undergo dissolution, coating, etching, weathering, recrystallisation, and surface alteration during formation. New states do not necessarily erase older ones; traces of earlier conditions may remain within the result.
In the DIYU Reading System, Transformation is read through reshaping, adaptation, and what remains.
火山
Volcano
Volcanoes release material from beneath the surface. Lava, ash, and subsequent cooling do not merely destroy previous terrain; they establish new rock and new surfaces.
Etched mineral surfaces, dark coatings, cavity-like textures, burnt-looking tones, and rough matrix can evoke volcanic landscapes. The important reading is not that something looks scorched, but how a change of state produces new structure.
Reading impressions: release, reorganisation, formation.
Desert
A desert is not empty ground without change. Dryness, daily temperature variation, wind, transport, and weathering continually revise its surface, often through slow and repeated processes.
Matte skins, granular textures, rounded or etched edges, dry fracture-like patterns, and broad exposed areas in minerals can create comparable readings.
Reading impressions: exposure, movement, restraint.
Gobi
Gobi landscapes are often built from exposed rock, gravel, fragments, and sparse cover. Compared with dune fields, they emphasise hard ground remaining after prolonged erosion and transport.
Broken matrix, coarse texture, irregular skins, sparse crystals, and broad exposed substrate in mineral specimens can create comparable readings.
The tension lies not simply in barrenness, but in what remains after extended change.
Reading impressions: residue, persistence, openness.
Transformation in Minerals
To read transformation in minerals, observe whether crystal faces have undergone dissolution, etching, weathering, or roughening; whether earlier crystals were covered, damaged, or regrown; whether later material fills fractures; whether skins and matrix preserve environmental effects; whether colour and transparency change across growth stages; and whether gaps and remnants together determine the whole form.
Transformation does not occur only after a crystal is “finished.” A mineral specimen itself may be the result of repeated formation, dissolution, coating, and renewed growth.
Reading Impressions
Transformation does not necessarily mean becoming an entirely different state.
Natural change rarely removes every previous structure. Volcanoes create new terrain while leaving lava and ash; deserts transport material while preserving weathering traces; gobi landscapes appear open precisely because remnants and fragments remain.
Transformation therefore includes disruption, reorganisation, adaptation, residue, and formation.
DIYU Reading
DIYU Reading
DIYU does not read Transformation as a demand to abandon everything that came before.
Natural reshaping includes both loss and preservation. Crystal faces may dissolve while earlier outlines remain; surfaces may be covered while underlying structures stay readable; fractures may be followed by renewed growth.
Change does not deny the past. New structure is built upon older traces.
To read Transformation is not to demand immediate reinvention, but to understand what is being reshaped, what still needs to remain, and how a new whole can be formed from both.
